Well, dang! I thought this year was going to be different. Way different. I'm sure you did too, right?
But unfortunately, we are all in this together and I have been thinking long and hard about how to beat the Rona Blues. Here are 5 ways to beat the Rona (Covid-19 Blues): 1) Stop Worrying "I think, therefore I am" - Rene Descartes I'm a thinker. A deep thinker. But sometimes all that thinking doesn't do me any good. In fact, I've come to learn that overthinking any situation, especially all that 2020 has offered up, really doesn't help anything at all. So, stop worrying. All the worry in the world won't take us back to 2019, nor will it take away the Rona, so stop. We are all going to Die - Eventually - It might be today or tomorrow. Don't dwell on it. Appreciate each moment of this beautiful, precious life. Be thankful for each breath. 2) Put down your phone and Soak up the Sun Put your phone down. Go outside. Look up at the sky. It is still there. The world is still turning and our star is still burning. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Keep breathing and feel the warmth of the sun on your skin. Everything will be okay. 3) Reach out and touch Someone We are all hurting right now, some more than others. Even if you can't be with someone physically, reach out to a friend or family member via phone or text. Often times just hearing your voice is all they need. 4) Listen to Music I believe that music has the power to heal the body mind and spirit. Listen to your favorite song, artist or concert. 5) Sleep The stress created by this within my own body is palpable. I'm sure you feel the same way. Sleep is such an important thing for our bodies to reset and recharge. I am guilty of staying up too late and getting up too early. Join me in getting more sound sleep. I'm going to start unwinding earlier. No screens after 8pm. Turn down the lights. Close your eyes. Drift away to dreamland. JB Strange times we are living in, eh?
I thought 2020 was going to be a bit different. I was hoping for some awesome live gigs this summer to fine tune some of my songs before recording them, for real, in a studio. Obviously that isn't possible at the moment. So, I've been doing the next best thing. Standing on my porch playing for my neighbors. Good things are happening. The songs are getting new life, new melodies (in some cases) and some sweet bass lines. Hope you're hanging in there and able to find the good vibrations, frequencies and most importantly the UNIVERSAL ENERGY that every living being has through and through. One love, JB Happy New Year!!
2020. That seems crazy to say out loud, right?! We are living in the future. 2019 was amazing! Thank you for your support! As I was burning last year's Christmas Tree in the fire pit this past week, I got to thinking: Another year around the Sun. Another ring around the tree Turned our walk into a run Spinning way to fast for me It's going quick. Wake up and smell the roses, amigos. Seriously. The last time I recorded a First Take Friday was on August 23rd - Drinking with the King, It's been nice taking a breather from writing/recording. The time has come, however, to start sharing some music again. Fun things in the works for 2020. See you soon! Thank you, JB The whole reason that I started the First Take Friday Songwriting Series was to show the foundation of a song. Over the past 100 weeks, I have written 100 songs and recorded them, mostly, in one take (I did a half episode, #53.5, in the middle of The Adventures of Cowboy Dan, hence #99 for this week).
After two years of pouring the foundation, I'm going to start building the rest of the house now. I'll be shifting from songwriting to performing, arranging, and finally, taking these songs into the studio. New tunes won't be coming down the pipe for a few weeks. Thank you for your patience! I'll pop out an play a few of these live from time to time so keep your ears on. Also, if you dig it, holler at me for your next house concert. I've had a blast doing this. Thank you for your continued support!! First Take Fridays, Vol. 9 (Episodes 90-99) is now available on all online streaming services. Jonathan Brader will return for First Take Friday, Episode 100. Stay tuned, JB First Take Friday - Episode #99 Drinking with the King Written by Jonathan Brader Tale of the Tune: I wrote this song one night for my friend, Tim. Unfortunately, he passed before he could hear it. The song recalls this time that me Tim, Gareth (Tim's brother), and my GF at the time went to six flags. It was the first, and so far, only time that I have ridden the Boss, which was a brand new wooden roller coaster at the time. We went home that night and enjoyed the good times with a few cold beers. Tim and Gareth live in the UK, hence the chorus. It was a fun night. Miss you, Tim. I'll have a few for you tonight. Thank you for watching/listening. JB First Take Friday - Episode #98 The Midnight Hour Written by Jonathan Brader Tale of the Tune: This song is about a dream I had about my wife. She wasn’t home when I woke up. But then I realized I was dreaming, so I actually woke up and she was there. Dreams are funny, aren’t they? Thank you for watching/listening, JB First Take Friday - Episode #97 Cats are Aliens Written by Jonathan Brader Tale of the Tune: I’ve had this theory in mind for quite some time now, so I decided to write a song about it. Of course, this is just my humble opinion. Thank you for checking it out. JB First Take Friday - Episode #96 Summertime Lullabies Written by Jonathan Brader Tale of the Tune: This tune is inspired by the end of summer. I’m pretty bummed about it. I love summertime. It is hands down my favorite time of year. Thank you for checking it out. JB First Take Friday - Episode #95 Rockin’ with Me Written by Jonathan Brader Tale of the Tune: A very busy week inspired this tune. We’ve all got so much stuff going on that we all forget to have some fun sometimes. Thankfully, my wife, likes to keep it real. She’s always Rockin’ with Me! Thank you for checking it out. JB |
