First Take Friday - Episode 69 We Need Love Written by Jonathan Brader Tale of the Tune: Dr. Martin Luther King inspired this song. It is sad that there is so much hate in the world. We need love! This is a very rough edition, but I’m coming down with a cold so this is the best I could do with the time I have to write/record, hence the reason it’s called “First Take Friday”. First Take Friday - Episode 68 Mardi Gras Queen Written by Jonathan Brader Tale of the Tune: This one is about dancing with your girl on Mardi Gras. Always a good time! Thank you for checking it out. JB First Take Friday - Episode #67 Lost at Mardi Gras Written by Jonathan Brader Tale of the Tune: This song, like most of the songs I write, is based on a true story. One year at the Mardi Gras parade in St. Louis (the Saturday parade in Soulard), I was on a float with some friends of mine. It was amazing! The closest thing to being on stage that I’ve ever felt while not on stage. People love beads. Anyway, I was supposed to meet up with some other friends, but I couldn’t find them, so I was Lost at Mardi Gras. It turned into the best Mardi Gras ever just because of the sheer coincidence of running into all the friends I wasn’t there to meet. It was amazing! Let the Good Times Roll - It’s Carnival season, Y’all! JB First Take Friday - Episode #66 Carnival Written by Jonathan Brader Tale of the Tune: January 6th is Epiphany, or the date the wise men (aka Magi, or three kings) visited the newborn Jesus. It is also known as 12th night (the 12th night after Jesus’ birth). It also signifies the start of Carnival Season, which culminates on Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday). The Carnival season and Mardi Gras are the final days of debauchery (excessive alcohol, meat, chocolate, pancakes, etc) before Lent. Once midnight hits on Mardi Gras, Ash Wednesday and the season of Lent begins, which lasts until Easter Sunday. This song is a celebration of Carnival, hence the title of the song. You may notice that this is the first time I've used an electric guitar. Not sure I like it for the First Take Fridays, but I wanted a different sound than the acoustic for this one. Thankfully, the first rule of the First Take Friday Series is that there are no rules (LOL!). If you’ve never been to New Orleans, I’d highly recommend going. It is a beautiful city. When I can record a studio version of this tune, I hope to have a brass band accompanying me. It will be pretty sweet. Thank you for watching/listening. Happy Carnival! JB |
