First Take Friday - Episode 53 Cowboy Dan, Part One Written by Jonathan Brader Tale of the Tune: This tune is the 4th song in the Western set. The hero in our story is Cowboy Dan. His father was a Navajo and his mother was a puritan woman from Boston. They raised Cowboy Dan out in Navajo nation, which spans about 20,000 acres of Arizona and New Mexico. Cowboy Dan is one of the best human’s you’ll never meet. He was raised with street smarts from his mom and a loving heart & warrior spirit from his dad. When the US Civil War broke out, Cowboy Dan wanted peace for the nation as he had seen countless skirmishes while he was growing up. This idea of peace festered in him to the point that he decided to act on behalf of the US Government as a Peace Consultant. He was well respected and was paid handsomely for his efforts. When he returned to New Mexico, after the war, he decided to buy some land both as a place to raise cattle and as a way to retrieve some of the Navajo land that was stolen by the US Government. I wish you could have met him when he was alive. He was quite the fellow. (This is all fiction, by the way) Next week, I’ll tell you a little about the gates on the ranch (Hint: there are none). Hope you enjoy! Cheers!
